Otto de Jager — Equine Projection Installation
Commissioned for a private event hosted by Otto de Jager, the project involved the creation of a series of life-sized equine sculptures integrated directly into the architectural environment.
The objective was to transform the event space into an immersive visual experience that combined sculpture, light, and projection technology.
The concept explored the boundary between physical sculpture and projected reality.
The installations were designed to exist in two states. In their unlit form, the monochromatic white sculptures appeared minimal and sculptural. Once projection was introduced, they became part of an immersive environment, transforming into convincing inhabitants of a projected stable landscape.
Rather than relying on conventional modelling techniques, the forms were built through the accumulation of layered paper planes, curves, and torn surfaces. This process created a highly textured sculptural language that captured the musculature and movement of the animals while retaining the material honesty of paper. The neutral surface allowed the sculptures to function as projection canvases while preserving the shadows, highlights, and dimensional qualities generated by the paper construction itself.
The result was a seamless dialogue between physical object and projected image, blurring the distinction between sculpture and scenography.
