Nataniël for SARIE Magazine — Editorial Set Design

Created for a Valentine's edition feature in SARIE magazine, this multidisciplinary paper art project explored how a single material could be transformed into fashion accessories, wearable sculpture, performance staging, and editorial installation.

The collection was developed around themes of romance, affection, craftsmanship, and transformation. Rather than approaching Valentine's symbolism literally, familiar motifs such as hearts, flowers, and lace were reinterpreted through contemporary paper construction techniques, resulting in a series of highly tactile sculptural pieces that existed somewhere between fashion, set design, and art object.

The creative direction centred on the idea of paper as an emotional material.

Traditionally associated with letters, poetry, handmade gifts, and personal expression, paper became the perfect medium through which to explore themes of intimacy and sentimentality. The challenge was to elevate these familiar Valentine's references beyond decoration, creating objects that felt sophisticated, sculptural, and contemporary.

Throughout the collection, repetition, layering, and modular construction were used to create depth and complexity. Hearts became structural components rather than symbols, while floral forms evolved into architectural surfaces and immersive environments.

The result was a body of work that balanced romance with modernity.
