Kaalkop Studio — Paper Tableware Collection
Developed for Kaalkop Studio, this project explored the potential of paper as a medium for contemporary tabletop and decorative product design.
The brief called for a collection of lightweight, elegant paper objects that could enhance everyday dining and entertaining without relying on traditional decorative materials. The products needed to balance visual refinement with practicality, while remaining accessible as gifts, home décor objects, and functional tabletop accessories.
The resulting collection included a range of paper tableware and decorative elements, from glass adornments and placemats to tea light holders, botanical accessories, and modular decorative components designed for personal styling and display.
The collection was inspired by the idea that decoration need not be permanent, precious, or excessive to create a sense of occasion.
Drawing from botanical forms, butterflies, birds, blossoms, and organic silhouettes, the designs introduced moments of delicacy and visual interest into the domestic environment. The use of white paper allowed form, shadow, and detail to become the primary focus, creating objects that felt understated yet distinctive. The work also reflected an interest in democratic design; objects that could be easily packaged, gifted, assembled, and enjoyed without sacrificing craftsmanship or visual sophistication.
By combining functionality with sculptural simplicity, the work transformed everyday objects into moments of quiet interaction and discovery. The resulting pieces offered consumers a flexible way to personalize their environments while celebrating craftsmanship, material innovation, and the enduring appeal of paper as a design medium.
