Essential Earth — Botanical Object Product Design
A sculptural paper collection created for Essential Earth, inspired by the forms, textures, and botanical diversity of indigenous South African flora.
Developed through hand-cut construction, layered folding systems, perforation techniques, and botanical abstraction, the series explored paper as both specimen and structure.
Inspired by proteas, aloes, jacarandas, and wetland vegetation, each object was individually fabricated in studio using textured, all-white paper compositions. Rather than replicating flora literally, the collection aimed to distill structural characteristics found within indigenous South African plant systems; serrated aloe edges, layered protea geometries, branching root systems, and suspended floral formations. Lighting, table objects, vessels, floral studies, and spatial décor formed part of the final installation system.
By abstracting indigenous South African flora into monochromatic forms, the project created an immersive visual identity balancing contemporary minimalism with organic complexity.
The final installations functioned simultaneously as décor, sculpture, lighting, and spatial storytelling.
