Collar Studies — Wearable Paper Sculpture for Hospitality Performance

Commissioned for a luxury event environment, this project involved the design and fabrication of a series of bespoke paper collars for hospitality staff.

The objective was to develop wearable sculptural forms that would integrate service personnel into the visual identity of the event itself. Rather than remaining visually separate from the designed environment, the waitstaff became active participants within the spatial narrative, contributing to the atmosphere, aesthetic language, and guest experience.

The collar was approached as a wearable architectural structure. The resulting forms framed the body, altered silhouette, and introduced a sense of theatre and visual rhythm throughout the space. Geometric folding became the primary design language. Sharp planes, expanding volumes, and directional forms created a dynamic relationship between light, shadow, and movement.

The design process focused on the relationship between the collar and the human body. Particular attention was given to scale, proportion, and silhouette to ensure that the pieces maintained a strong visual presence without restricting movement or comfort.

Viewed collectively, the collars established a cohesive visual language throughout the event, transforming multiple individuals into moving sculptural elements within a larger designed environment.
